Hi folks....A friend of mine and I took a leisurely stroll out Damon Point
today between 1 & 3pm. Standing just west of the pond we were able to see
two of the owls off in the distance, southeast of us, then a third one flew
in and landed shortly before we had to leave.

We had a modest scope and were content to watch them from afar. My friend is
also interested in waterfowl, so what we were seeing on the pond was just as
interesting to her as the owls; nothing spectacular, but the sheer pleasure
of the sunshine and little wind with Mount Rainier as a backdrop made for a
great day! Even the resident female northern harrier perched for a bit,
giving us a single scope view of Rainier, the harrier and two of the three
owls...not too shabby.

To top it off, we were treated to some pretty good views of two snow
buntings, but they were jumpy. They perched briefly on the end of a log and
we were able to get the scope on them for a bit before they flew off to the
east.

I recommend a visit this weekend as the weather is supposed to hold at least
until later Sunday. Just dress warmly; the sun is out but it's still pretty
cold.
