Subject: [Tweeters] Late afternoon at Juanita Bay

A late afternoon stop at Juanita Bay turned up a flock of about 50
Canvasbacks (mostly drakes) in addition to a lone Trumpeter Swan and
the usual gang of Wood and Ring-necked Ducks, Hooded Mergansers,
Wigeons, Coots, Mallards, Green-winged Teal, and Ring-billed Gulls.
The drama of our short visit was provided by two Bald Eagles that were
hunting cooperatively. They made repeated passes (12 -15 each) over a
lone duck. It barely had time to surface before it was forced to dive
again. Just when we thought the Eagles had completely exhausted the
hapless duck, they gave up the chase and retired to several piers out
in the water. The (lucky) duck quickly swam toward a large flock near
the shore.
