My friend and I found more than 220 trumpeters at the corner of Crescent
Lake Rd and High Bridge Road. This is the most swans I have seen in the
area so early in the season. There were a few tundra swans in the group.
A flock of 32 tundra swans flew over the area, circling and circling then
leaving for a few minutes before returning and circling several more times.
The flying tundras were very vocal. The swans on the ground were almost
totally silent. The tundra group finally flew south up the valley after
about 15 minutes of circling the area. Tundras are in full migration
through this area but I have not seen this type of behavior before. It was
also interesting to not hear vocalizations from the birds on the ground.
