For the person that likes hummingbirds, check out the following link that
has five different books on hummingbirds. The Hummingbird Book would be a
great book to get someone interested in Hummingbirds. Hummingbird Gardens
would be great for someone who wants to attract hummingbirds by growing
plants that attract hummingbirds..

HI:
So what Christmas/Holiday books are birders buying as gifts or want for
gifts?
------------------------------------------

Ian et al:

I've put Rising and Beadle's new photographic guide to sparrows on my
list (even though I already own their previous sparrow book as well as
Byers, Curson, and Olsson's). I looked at a friend's copy and it really
brings sparrow ID into the 21st century.

If I hadn't found a bargain basement price for the new Nat'l Geographic's
Complete Birds of North America, it would also be on my list. At 664 pages,
it is too heavy and bulky to carry out into the field, but I do leave it in
my car and refer to it frequently. It is much more than a bird ID book
(although it is that too).

Also on my list I would include Dr. Paulson's Shorebirds of the PNW and
his brand new Shorebirds of NA: The Photographic Guide. Both are so
thorough and complete that they go way beyond description. Spend a moment
thumbing through each and I'm sure you'll be hooked. They are not on my
list though-- I already own signed copies of both!

Good birding, Mike (if interested, note my new email address)
