At our mountain cabin in Cle Elum, it has been very cold. One morning when
it was 8 degrees I watched a varied thrush who came to the feeder fluff up
it's feathers and nestle down into the snow, as into the dust to dust bathe,
and begin to eat the seed. It did that several times and I couldn't figure
out why it was doing that. Then I saw it at another feeder holding one leg
up under it's chest feathers and realized he was burying his feet in his
feathers to keep them warm. Anyone else see this behavior at feeders?
