I volunteer every spring on a Breeding Bird Survey in E Washington, and know how important it is to keep the CRP lands intact - - otherwise, the fallow wheat lands produce only feeding grounds for horned larks....

Wildlife Program, Science Division has openings for 4 non permanent Fish and Wildlife Biologist 1's for 4 months beginning 15 March 2006. The project will focus on examining the potential of the Conservation Reserve Program to aid in the long-term conservation of shrubsteppe birds. The position will be based in Region 2 with field work encompassing much of eastern Washington. The primary duties will be conducting point-count surveys, pellet-surveys, and vegetation sampling.

The minimum qualifications for the F&W Biologist 1 is, "A Bachelor's degree in fisheries, wildlife management, natural resource science, or environmental science".

Applicants should have: 1) strong skills in field identification of birds (preferably western) by sight and song, 2) experience conducting point-count surveys, and 3) enthusiasm for working irregular hours in remote areas.
