We were at the Carnation Farms this afternoon when an officer from the WA Department of Fish and Game captured a Snowy Owl in the field across from the main buildings. Some farm employees noticed the bird in the field after one thought he saw it hit a wire. He went in the field and confirmed the bird had problems and called the State. They said they had seen two earlier in the day and neither had a problem.

We spent a big part of the day looking for the Snowy and the Sandhill Crane that had been reported in the area to no avail. We had a good day with other birds and decided to go pass the farm one more time on the way home. We saw a person in the field and then noticed the bird near by. We stopped to see what was going on and stayed until it was captured. The bird looked like it might have some wing damage. It also had a problem with the right eye which looked like it happened at another time.

The officer said he was taking the bird to Skip Nelson a local bird vet.

The links are to pictures of the bird.

This is the officer and the bird. The bird was about in the middle of the field to the left of the road.
