This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for Friday,
December 16th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver. This message was updated at 6 pm on
December 16th.


Sightings for Friday, December 16th:

In South Surrey, at the mouth of the Serpentine River, the AMERICAN AVOCET
was still present. Access is from Mud Bay park.

At Walnut Grove Park in Langley, a WESTERN SCREECH OWL was calling.

There were no reports for Thursday, December 15th or Wednesday,
December 14th.


Sightings for Tuesday, December 13th:

In Vancouver, a VIRGINIA RAIL was seen at Jericho Park in the west pond.


Sightings for Monday, December 12th:

In South Surrey, at the mouth of the Serpentine River, the AMERICAN AVOCET
was seen.

At the Tsawwassen ferry jetty in Delta, 6 SNOW BUNTINGS were present.


Sightings for Sunday, December 11th:

In South Surrey, a SNOWY OWL was seen 200 metres upstream from
the railway bridge at the mouth of the Serpentine River. Access is from
Mud Bay park.


Sightings for Saturday, December 10th:

In a garden in Cloverdale, a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was present.

At Blackie Spit in South Surrey, a MARBLED GODWIT was seen along with 4
EURASIAN WIDGEONS. Nearby in the Dunsmuir Gardens, a HERMIT
THRUSH was present.
