Spent some time birding around UW the past couple of days. Today the ponds
at the Fill were frozen, so no ducks or bittern there. Plenty of ducks on
the bay though. The best find was a male Wilson's Warbler foraging just
past the interpretive sign by the horticultural building. We watched him
foraging in a patch of low brush as well as on the frosty grass. He had more
energy than an entire flock of Bushtits. By far the latest Wilson's Warbler
that I have ever seen. On Thursday there was a male Blue-winged Teal on
UW. It was in the brackish water alongside Walla Walla road (E of Husky
Stadium) where the road bends 90 degrees by the Dempsey center. This patch
of water was frozen today, and we couldn't find him nearby, but snipe were
consolation. Good assortment of ducks in the area. Have fun. ~Alex and
