Hi Tweets:

East Lake Washington Audubon completed its Audubon Christmas Count on Saturday December 17th. I did my usual route which is called North Snoqualmie. In the middle of the afternoon, after counting waterfowl on Lake Joy, I proceeded to Moss Lake knowing the lake would be frozen. I'm familiar with what birds may be in this area so played bird calls for Pileated Woodpecker and Northern Pygmy-owl. While the group of three counters were admiring the 2 Bald Eagles, a Pileated Woodpecker flew over the lake. As that was happening, I heard the pygmy-owl calling. It took a bit of looking but I found the owl perched on top of a conifer tree and was able to get a decent photo through the scope. I usually see/hear the Northern Pygmy-owl in April and/or May in this area. I was quite pleased to add it to our Christmas Bird Count. Moss Lake is a King County Park. There may information on the Park's website, although I haven't checked it for about a year.
