Subject: [Tweeters] An interesting sighting in downtown Tacoma

I don't often notice birds outside my windows at work that are worth
posting to Tweeters, but today was an exception. A small warbler flew
into a tree across the street from my office at the City of Tacoma this
afternoon and much to my surprise it was a TOWNSEND'S WARBLER. This is
the first time I have seen this species downtown!

In other bird happenings in downtown Tacoma, this is prime time for
watching PEREGRINE FALCONs hunting pigeons from the air and building
ledges. If you find yourself in Tacoma and a large number of pigeons are
circling overhead, watch for the speedy Peregrine Falcon close on their
tails. If you are really lucky, you might be able to see the falcon take
a pigeon in mid-air - something I have failed to see so far in my 18
months working downtown. Someday!

Happy birding...
