Hi all....Like Rob McNair-Huff, I too rarely saw anything unusual outside my
second story office window. I worked on the west side of the Harbor Fwy
overlooking the downtown L.A. skyline. My USUAL birds were a pair of
peregrine falcons that had been introduced to the city life by The Peregrine
Fund. Their scrape was a box of gravel (I believe) on the 30th floor ledge
of the Union Bank Bldg.

Unlike Rob though, I frequently got to watch them hunt the pigeons. It was
very apparent when they were successful; a large puff of feathers midair
indicated a hit, then the bird was carried up to nearby favorite eating
perches.

I remember the occasional article in The L.A. Times about the birds, and
they inevitably interviewed some of the lunch-time workout members of the
nearby YMCA. Seems the hunting peregrines were the main attraction for those
using the treadmills, all of which were facing a huge wall of
glass...front-row seats for the drama outside.
