Subject: [Tweeters] Whidbey Grebe Numbers

My earlier report of 2,400 Western Grebes was inaccurate and the real number
was 3,220. Are Westerns increasing or are we just getting the birds that
normally winter elsewhere? Their numbers plummeted on our count in the late
'90's early 00's with only 1 counted in '02. The count started up in '03
with a dip last year.
Horned Grebe numbers were up; Red-necked were down. No Pied-billed were
seen possibly because all the freshwater was frozen. 1 Eared was recorded
