Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday December 22. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 503-233-3976.

The female KING EIDER at Alsea Bay continues to be seen as does the
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER in Klamath Falls. The FALCATED DUCK is again
being seen at the RV Park ponds at Coburg. BLUE JAYS are also being reported
from Enterprise.

REDPOLLS, TREE SPARROWS, and BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS are now being regularly seen
in Northeast Oregon. BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were reported during the week from
Crooked River Ranch, Bend, Hart Mountain, and Klamath Falls. One was in
Northeast Portland December 17. The latest series of storms have brought
several RED PHALAROPES to the beaches.

The December 18 Coos Bay Christmas Count found about 160 species including a
GRASSHOPPER SPARROW, CURLEW SANDPIPER, a TURKEY VULTURE, and two BARN
SWALLOWS. On December 17 a BARN SWALLOW was near Waldport. A SNOWY OWL and a
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW are now being seen at the South Jetty of Yaquina Bay.
Among the many birds on the December 17 Tillamook Count was a NASHVILLE
WARBLER and four BLACK PHOEBES. A male BLUE-WINGED TEAL was on Meares Lake
at Tillamook Bay December 20. Four SNOWY OWLS are still being seen at the
South Jetty of the Columbia River, and the EMPEROR GOOSE remains at Hammond.
A flock of SNOW BUNTINGS, 14 CINNAMON TEAL, and a HERMIT WARBLER were record
near Astoria on the December 18 Columbia Estuary Count.

On December 16 three TREE SWALLOWS were over Smith/Bybee Lakes in North
Portland. Twenty CANVASBACKS were on nearby Force Lake. On December 12 a
BARN SWALLOW was over Jackson Bottom in Hillsboro. A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW
was seen December 17 at Minto-Brown Park in Salem. Nine TREE SWALLOWS were
east of the Salem Airport December 20. On December 15 a BURROWING OWL was
north of Baskett Slough NWR along Livermore Road. The December 17 Medford
Count noted a ROSS?S GOOSE and a TREE SPARROW.

On December 16 a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER and a BEWICK?S WREN were in Bend. A
RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER was at Clyde Holliday State Park near Mt. Vernon
December 14. On the December 18 Wallowa County Count a SNOWY OWL was found
along Zumwalt Road east of Enterprise. The December 16 Union County Count
recorded a very rare winter sighting of a SWAINSON?S HAWK.

That?s it for this week..
