After participating in and seeing the results of the Bellingham CBC, I decided to go back up on Monday (sorry for the late post) and do some additional birding in the area. Larry Moss and I headed out mid-morning for the Lummi Indian Reservation where we spent the day, most of the time in the Lummi Flats. The weather started out very wet and windy, but soon the rain stopped and the wind lightened up a little. The highlight of the trip being two SNOWY OWLS midway out on the dike; near where the dike makes a 90 degree turn. We also looked for Short-eared Owls but found none. Additional highlights included:

Snow Bunting - 7 of them on the Lummi Dike

Merlin - 1 individual cruising along the Lummi Dike

White-throated Sparrow - located about 50 yards west of the intersection of Kwina Rd & Haxton Way

Eurasion Wigeon - we located two individuals in a large flock of wigeon at Sandy Point
