Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday December 29. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On December 28 a BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER visited a suet feeder in Progress in
southwest Portland. The FALCATED DUCK continues to be seen at Coburg. The
CURLEW SANDPIPER is still being seen at Bastendorf Beach near Coos Bay, but
is often difficult to find.

The SNOWY OWLS continue to be seen at the South Jetty of the Columbia River
and at Yaquina Bay. Another was seen December 25 near Alvadore southwest of
Junction City. It has not been relocated.

Heavy storms during the week brought very large numbers of RED PHALAROPES to
the beaches and into the Willamette Valley. The largest numbers appear to
be at Coos Bay. More will probably be pushed ashore with the predicted
storms during the coming week.

There is now extremely large numbers of SURF and WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS off
Lincoln County. The EMPEROR GEESE at Coos Bay and at Hammond are still being
reported. On December 23 a YELLOW-BILLED LOON was reported off Boiler Bay.
A GYRFALCON was seen during the week at Port Orford and at Flores Lake. A
RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD is now visiting a feeder east of Newport. On December 23
a GOLDEN EAGLE was seen with 110 RAVENS near Blaine south of Tillamook.

On December 25 an adult GLAUCOUS GULL was near McMinnville. At least 58
TRUMPERTER SWANS are now among the swan flocks in the Airlie area south of
Monmouth. The December 26 Brownsville Christmas Count reported a PACIFIC
GOLDEN-PLOVER near Halsey and a TURKEY VULTURE. The MOCKINGBIRD is still
being seen in Eugene. A GLAUCOUS GULL and three RED PHALAROPES were near
Roseburg during the week.

On December 21 an OSPREY was along the Deschutes River at Cline Falls State
Park west of Redmond.
