Tweets,

Well, the weatherman lied again! And 11 of us were glad today. The rain
never materialized as promised, so we had a pretty decent walk. We saw quite a
few species, just not many of each species.

Highlights included a juvenile NORTHERN SHRIKE seen out near McAllister
Creek and again behind the ring dike. It appeared to be the same bird. We also
saw a GREEN HERON inside the slough on the Nisqually River side just past the
turn off for the twin barns.

Raptors were again prevalent with several sightings of RED-TAILED HAWK,
NORTHERN HARRIER, and BALD EAGLE. We also saw an AMERICAN KESTRAL in the trees at
the start of there boardwalk and again out toward McAllister Creek.

We saw a good verity of ducks, just not lots of any species. We had an
EURASIAN WIGEON out near McAllister Creek in a flock of AMERICAN WIGEON.

We had MARSH WREN, BEWICK'S WREN, and a WINTER WREN in the riparian area
along the Nisqually River side.

All told we saw 47 species with nothing new for the year. We saw a total of
141 species for the year.

Mammals seen today included 4 COLUMBIAN BLACK-TAILED DEER, several EASTERN
GRAY SQUIRRELS, and a couple of HARBOR SEALS up the Nisqually River.

The SNOWY OWLS were out on the Nisqually flats and were seen from Luhr
Beach. We dipped on the RED PHALAROPES.

Until next week, have a Happy New Year and may your life lists continue to
grow.
