Dear Tweeters,

There are finally some Ancient Murrelets in Skagit
County waters. Last week on the Padilla Bay CBC, Thais
Armstrong saw a couple at Green Point (Washington
Park, Anacortes). Unfortunately, her husband Howard
was looking the other way for about two seconds, and
missed them--that is about par for the course for
viewing these skittish little birds.

Yesterday I spent three hours at Green Point, which
was probably the dozenth time I had tried for these
birds this year. At around 3:30 I finally got a
halfway decent view of four Ancient Murrelets, way out
there. There had been two or three other little flocks
of four to five murrelets that had probably also been
Ancients, but only one flock came in close enough for
me to ID them--and that was only just barely, at sixty
power in the scope. Also present were good numbers of
Marbled Murrelets and Pigeon Guillemots, with only a
small scattering of other seabirds.

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
