I've seen 144 species through the end of January while driving 555 miles; at ca. 27 mpg that's a total of 20.6 gallons or 7 birds per gallon so far. I'm a bit behind schedule on my milage as I've allotted just 6000 (222.2 gallons) for the year, which is 500 per month, so I'll have to cut back or car pool or something.

Alan Roedell has accepted the challenge to see who can see the most species in Washington in 2005 expending the fewest gallons of gas. Feel free to join the tourney.
