I have just finished reading a fascinating, short book on the
Carolina Parakeet that I would recommend to anyone interested in this
now-extinct bird. It is:
The Carolina Parakeet, Noel F. R. Snyder, Princeton Univ Press,
2004, 154 pp.
I was very surprised to learn that this bird once existed over
much of eastern US, and that the last wild birds still existed in Florida
in the late 1920s, and maybe even as late at 1937. I had always thought
of it as being restricted to the southeast, and that it was gone by 1900.
This book will really educate you about this bird!
