Hi Tweets,

As I was feeling sorry for myself with the flu, I noticed the Pine Siskins swirl away from the thistle in a panic. This caught my attention as they usually just go, this time they flew almost into the house in a obvious panic. I looked closer only to notice a small bird on the branch of the thistle feeder, I picked up my bins to get a closer look and was delighted (more like ecstatic) that is was a Northern Pygmy Owl. He/She sat on the branch for about 2 minutes while I tried taking pictures through a wet sliding door, the rain did not help.

A Hairy woodpecker (larger then the owl) kept to business right near the owl and the chickadees came back for a closer look, they must have decided the owl was not to be messed with as they took off again. the owl flew into a tall alder almost to the top and I lost sight of him. It has been about 20 minutes now and all is still quiet in the back yard. My picture is not the best but if anyone wants to see him just email me.

this made my day!
