Hi Tweeters,

This morning I chose to do the short version of my morning walks. Just out to the end of the far dock at Swan Town via the East Bay path and back home. When I walked out the door I was greeted with a strong wind-driven rain coming from the west. A big change from the weather enjoyed yesterday out at Nisqually. It was a fairly quiet morning, bird-wise, for East Bay. On both Wednesday and today I noted less numbers of birds than there had been earlier. And like Wednesday there were NO GB herons on East Bay. Considering that previosly there had always been at least two or three and sometimes closer to ten, I wonder if they are moving off to start nesting. On wednesday I noticed a larger number of GB Herons in the trees on the west side of West Bay than I had previously seen as well...a new rookery in the works or just a gathering point before moving on to an established rookery area? I was treated to a single male Canvasback on East Bay this morning, a first for me on E!
ast Bay.
He was preening and diving so elegantly...with similar movements as you see with swans. So beautiful to watch. Also had a mature Bald Eagle soaring in the wind, making the gulls look just plain silly with their soring "abilities". Another interesting site was that of one crow grooming/carressing another...something I had not seen before.

Bufflehead (less numbers than usual)
Double-crested Cormorant
Greater Yellowlegs (1)
Common Goldeneye
Hooded Merganser
Mew Gull
American Crow
Barrow's Goldeneye
Western Gull
Glaucous-winged Gull
Dark-eyed Junco
Red-winged Blackbird
Canvasback (1)
Surf Scoter
Mallard (also less numbers)
Western Scrub-jay

Happy Birding,
