Thelma Gimour, of Tahoma Audubon has spent a great many years bringing
children into nature. She is an inspiration for many who do this kind of
thing. Many audubon groups do educational work, run nature centers and the
like. The public school system is general is pretty much abandoning nature
education, so if kids are going to get a personal connection to nature, and
that is what makes the difference, then it has to come from outside of the
system. I overheard Thelma once tell somebody, all it takes is one
afternoon with a couple of kids to change their lives. I took that to heart
myself.
