On our way back from Westport on Wednesday, Feb. 2, Bev and I stopped at Bottle Beach to check it out for shorebirds. However, the tide was way out and too far to positively ID the birds. There were some state park employees there. Thorberg MacFarland (?) who is a Park Planner had two others with him. Thorberg indicated that he had received a grant for upgrading the Bottle Beach facilities and they were checking it out. There would be a paved parking lot for 10-12 cars at the entrance. An interpretative sign would be installed. The trail to the beach would be improved and a new trail along the north side of the marsh would be made. He is coordinating plans with the Grays Harbor Audubon. Apparently, the parks department would use some prisoners to help with the labor required. So it appears that Bottle Beach will get some official status. And, it would also mean that it would get a lot more use since people could find it easier.
