Hello Tweeters ,
In case any one like to read this about the Redwing in Peace Valley-Park,Bucks Co.PA what got found yesterday .It sound kind of complicated to going to look for this bird.As Wayne Webber mention we probable having a invasion. The Redwing in Tacoma stayed more than a month what is a record for this species.According to Macklin Smith from Michigan who got the highest ABA list that this Redwing don't stayed for one or two days.We all been so fortune that the Thrush here in Olympia stayed so long.I received a message yesterday from Davich Farbnik who lives in Bucks Co.Davich was one of the birders who came on the weekend where the thrush was only sighted on the 21th at 8.45
Davich was one of the first birders who went and saw the Redwing yesterday and also was lucky to take video of this bird.I

Cheers Ruth Sullivan

> All,
> That is Redwing as in Turdus iliacus. Today at before 1PM, Jessica Huff
> and I were walking on the Unami Trail in the Nature Area. As a flock of
> robins hopped up to pishing, Jessica immediately got on a bird and we were both
> unable to ID it. After consultation with Devich Farbotnik who was at the other
> end of the park and checking Nat. Geo. we concluded that Redwing was the
> closest thing to what we saw. Devich relocated the bird and confirmed the ID.
> The directions given in other E-mails is not 100% correct. First let me
> say that parking is limited at the Nature Center and although people parked on
> New Galena Rd. today, it is dangerous and could create an opportunity for the
> local police to make their quota. Parking along the road in the park can
> also generate the same response. If you must walk in from New Galena Rd., walk
> on the field side of the tree line as this is park property. The other side is
> PRIVATE.
> DIRECTIONS: Get on Rt313 going north from Doylestown and turn left onto
> New Galena Rd. The last house (brown) on the left before Chapman Rd. is the
> house mentioned in a previous E-mail. The bird was not on the front lawn, it
> was in the back. It could be seen from park property (see below for trail
> directions). It was there for a period in the afternoon but mostly was feeding in
> multiflora rose along a tree line that runs perpendicular to New Galena Rd.
> on the property line of this brown house and parallel to the Unami Trail. The
> bird was found adjacent to the trail but with the large crowd, stayed on the
> other side (field side) of the tree line later in the day until dusk. You will
> see a multiwire deer fence beyond the tree line and the bird was often close
> to that fence. THIS IS PRIVATE PROPERTY BEYOND THE TREE LINE.
> If at all possible, you should park in a parking lot and walk to the
> site. Going past the brown house on New Galena Rd. to Chapman Rd. make a left and
> go down the hill. There are two lots back to back across from the Nature
> Center. If these are full, there is a lot on the other side of the lake off
> Chapman Rd. but you must go back to New Galena and Rt 313 and turn right at Ferry
> Rd at the light. Go to Chapman Rd. and make a right and drive to the parking
> lot on the left. Walk down the hill on Chapman Rd.over the bridge to the
> Nature Center. Other lots are west of Chapman Rd. on both sides of the lake but
> you would have to walk back a long distance on the bike trail to the Nature
> Center. Another option if there is nowhere closer available is to park at the
> store at the corner of Rt 313 & New Galena and walk down New Galena Rd. NOTE, I
> have not gotten permission to park there.
> TRAIL DIRECTIONS: From the parking lot at the Nature Center, take the
> path going back toward New Galena Rd. parallel to Chapman Rd. near the entrance
> to the lot. This is either Swamp Oak or Indian Path. Follow to a right turn
> which is Indian Path and take that straight back through the woods. There are
> a few jogs. Take the left fork if you see a path (Pond Path) going to the
> right in the woods When you come out of the woods, go left on the Unami Trail.
> You will be heading back toward New Galena Rd. The path will curve to the
> right past a Kestrel box on a pole and then by a cage feeder in a rose thicket.
> The side of the brown house will be ahead of you. The bird could be anywhere
> from there down to the right along the tree line. It never went beyond the
> end of the tree line which joins a woods before Woods Way Trail. Note the
> trails are snow covered and slippery. Patience provided excellent views for all.
> I must say that everyone used excellent judgment in staying at a good distance
> so all could see the bird even though the trees sometimes made it somewhat
> difficult.
> The area had over 20 Bluebirds as well. A Greater White-fronted Goose
> was in with the geese by the dam in the morning.
> Enjoy!
