Hi Tweeters,

I heard that someone saw one of my banded white-crowns on campus (see below). I am a grad student in the Biology Department at UW, and study urban adaptation in white-crowns. I banded that bird 2 summers ago ('03). If he had a dark green band over hot pink, then I banded him about 2 blocks from where you saw him (if it was light green, then I banded him at Steven's Pass, so I assume it was dark green). Pretty remarkable site fidelity!

I'm always interested to hear about re-sightings of my banded birds, so please feel free to email me if you see others!

Thanks!

Heard a faint song of the White-crowned Sparrow at the
feeder at Aqua Verde. Nice! He was banded as well,
left leg green over hot pink, right leg dirty orange
over silver. On a different day saw him grab the
orange band and move it up and down his leg once. This is the first time I have
watched a banded bird do
anything with their bands. I thought I saw a second
banded white-crowned but could not get a good enough
look. An immature was with banded one.
