Tweeters,
Clear skies, no wind, slack tide, and just another gorgeous day here at
the Turning Basin #3 (TB3). A good variety of gulls (Glaucous-winged,
Mew, California, and Ring-billed), and some of the other regulars. The
big surprise? A COYOTE hunting prey along the south side of the
restoration peninsula, on the north side of the stormwater channel - the
first of these urbanites I've seen in this area.

(This is my first report since 1-9-05: a couple of out-of-town trips to
SoCal and a marriage ceremony kinda had priority for the past few
weeks.)

Birds seen during this scan include the following:
Domestic goose (still patrolling the northeast side of TB3)
Canada Goose (4)
Gadwall (3)
Bufflehead (2; male and female on opposite sides of TB3)
Common Merganser (2)
Double-crested Cormorant (5; fishing separately)
Red-tailed Hawk (on power tower next to SR99)
Mew Gull (12)
Ring-billed Gull (3)
California Gull (1)
Glaucous-winged Gull (8)
Rock Pigeon (44)
Belted Kingfisher
American Crow
European Starling (3)
Song Sparrow
House Finch
House Sparrow (2)

Total species seen to date - 2005 - (not incl. the DOGO ;>} ): 23

May all your birds be identified,
