Just got back from taking the scenic route home from Silverdale. On the
Holly-Dewatto Road, just south of the Kitsap-Mason County line I flushed up
three birds from the roadside. Turning my binos on them I discovered a male
and two female Western Bluebirds. I have not seen them in this part of the
county so it was a real surprise to find them. I found no swallows in the
marshy valley about a half-mile further south (a wide, wet valley through
which flows Dewatto River). This area is hot for swallows upon their first
return in spring as there is lots of wet fields and lots of insects for
them. However there was a singing Bewick's wren singing its beak off atop a
shrub about 50 ft off the road.

Ahhhhh, spring is almost sprung. If the coltsfoot is in bloom, can the
currants and indian plum be far behind???
