Hello Tweets and other birders,

This message was sent to us privately about the Baikal Teal, but we wanted to
forward the message to all birders intersted in the sighting.

I saw the Baikal Teal today at Kent Ponds, but I am not sure that you want
to relay the exact details of how I saw it.
The bird was in an area of the ponds that can not be seen from the south
viewing tower. In my directions, I refer to the map from the Green River
Natural Resources Area. I initially looked from the south viewing tower
into the pond that is called the "lagoon" on the map, but noted that several
ducks had flown out of this pond and to the east. So, I walked along the
south side of the wetlands paralleling the paved trail. I was able to view
the area referred to as the "constructed wetlands" area from the fence and
saw the bird in the western portion of the "constructed wetlands" area. The
exact location is as follows: there is a gate (along the chain link fence)
with a sign that states "Maintenance Road only NO public access". This gate
is directly behind the brown building "Diadora", address 6102 S 226th. I
climbed partly up this gate so that I could see up over the bushes and into
the pond. I did not climb over the gate or go into the property but I had
to stand on a portion of the gate to see over the bushes lining the pond
(and I am 6 feet tall). The Baikal Teal was in this pond with a large
group of Green-winged Teal. There was no way to see this area other than to
climb partly up the fence. It would be possible to see the northern portion
of this pond from the bench along 64th street but I could not see the bird
from this spot nor could I see the location where the bird was.

Thanks,
