Since Jim Acton had informed me that PINE GROSBEAKS
have been frequenting the Indian Canyon Golf Course on
Sunset Hill in west Spokane, my husband Frank and I
went out there to take some photos of the birds. After
carefully checking several Mt. Ash trees, I found five
female and immature males in a berry-laden tree.
These gentle birds were so tame that you could
approach them closely without fear of flushing them.
They were feeding in such a slow deliberate fashion
that I really had to scrutinize the tree branches to
detect their presence. Other than a few soft call
notes, the birds were quiet.
As we enjoyed communing with the Pine Grosbeaks, a
small flock of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS flew over. The
weather today was windy, brisk, and partly cloudy.
