All this talk of pelagic field trips reminds me that I've been meaning
to ask . . . How common or rare are Parasitic Jaegers on Puget Sound? A
few years ago I went on an orca-watching cruise from Bellingham, and the
guide pointed out many different birds. He was particularly gleeful
over showing us a Parasitic Jaeger, which immediately obliged by
harrassing a gull and stealing its fish, thus living up to its name. He
indicated that the sighting was quite unexpected, and I thought I'd ask
you experts if that is indeed true. This occurred in June, and as a
birding landlubber, I've considered it a highlight. Any feedback is
appreciated. Thank you!
