I hate to be the one to post a negative report, but we
could not find the Tufted Duck at Perch Point today
(2/15/04). We did sift through a a mixed flock of 50
ducks that consisted of Ring-necks, Lesser Scaup,
Redheads, Green-winged Teal, one Ame. Wigeon, and a
few mallards, that were all located in a protected
inlet. We didn't see any scaup or ringnecks out on the
more open water.

After beating the bushes on both the southern entrance
and the northern entrance to the North Potholes Unit,
we failed to turn up any on Bushtits. We saw 7 Bald
Eagles, plenty of Pintail, Lesser & Greater Scaup, RC
Kinglet, juncos, WC Sparrow, Cal. Quail, Pheasant,
singing Bewick's Wrens, but no Bushtits.

Continuing this dismal trend, we checked the WDFW
office and found no birds in the birch trees. Needless
to say, we didn't see any Redpolls today.

The highlight of the day, was viewing thousands of
blackbirds around the Para Ponds. Yellow-headed,
Brewer's, Red-winged, and quite a few TRICOLORED
BLACKBIRDS were viewed in excellent light.
Brown-headed Cowbirds, Starlings, and House Sparrows
made up the chaff of the flock. We diligently searched
for Rusty Blackbirds, but didn't find any this time.
