Tweets,

We looked real hard for Horned Puffins on the pelagic trip out of Westport
last Saturday, but, alas, there were none spotted.

Yes it is surprising considering the large number of live and dead birds
that have been found along the Oregon coast - including the far northern
Oregon coast. The reason is not the absence of storms on the Washington
coast - since we have also have been lacking in such events on the Oregon
coast.

As a member of the COASST (Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team)
volunteers, also fondly known as the "dead bird survey team", I too am
surprised we haven't seen any dead puffins washed up on our beaches here in
Ocean Shores.

Maybe it has to do with the lack of any major winter storms to drive them up
on our shores?
