Hi Tweeters,

I think the full moon did something to the local
birds, they were full of interesting behaviors this
week. A pair of crows were herding Wigeon that were
up on the grass. When one portion of the Wigeon flock
left a male duck did a dive at one of the crows. That
was rather surprising to me. I didn't think they had
it in them. At the same time a pair of perched crows
had one crow sort of grooming the abdomen of the other
with an occasional good hard poke that would rock the
crow on it's feet.

There is an overabundance of male Anna's hummers
around here. I often have a tough time seeing who
they are displaying to and when I do it is usually
another male Anna's. Yesterday I watched one at the
fish pond territory display to a Robin!

The immature Bald Eagle had a discouraging afternoon
trying to hunt. I did not see the original bird it
was swooping at but after an unsuccessful dunk in the
bay it swooped at some Double-crest Cormorants. Then
it tried to tail chase a small flock of ducks that
easily outflew the Eagle.

New songsters for me this week included one of my
favorite singers, the Ruby-crowned Kinglet.
