Subject: [obol] Olympia Redwing, Samish Gyrfalcon

I was able to locate the Redwing in Olympia yesterday afternoon at about 5:00, at the Corner of Rogers and Harrison. A nice bird, and it does stand out from the associated robins. The white breast attracted my attention from some distance, as it sat with robins in the top of a tall tree. This is just so you know the chances of finding it are not as bad as you might think. It took me about a half hour, or less, and I thought it worth the time, as long as we were driving through Olympia anyway.

There was an orchid show in Mt. Vernon, so I dropped Patricia off at 8:00, and drove out to Samish Flats to see a Gyrfalcon that has been there for three months. It is very cooperative, and well photographed. Out on Samish Island, it was nice to see 11 Long-tailed ducks in a row - we usually only see one at a time here in Oregon. There were big flocks of Snow Geese on Fir Island, and they are always nice to see.
