Happy New Year,

While participating in the Klickitat Valley/Columbia Hills CBC today, we had a male Tufted Duck 3 miles below John Day Dam. This is south and east of Goldendale. Take the gravel road downstream from the dam, or go east from Maryhill 2 miles beyond the pavement end on the gravel road. It was in a group of Greater and Lesser Scaup about 100 yards out in the Columbia River.

We had two Harris's Sparrows. A winter adult was on the north side of SR-14 50 yards west of Milepost 112 (a few miles east of John Day Dam). The other was 100 yards south of the Mary Hill State Park kiosk, ground foraging with lots of other Zonos, including a single White-throated, lots of Golden-crowned, and, surprisingly, fewer numbers of White-crowns. There were also 2 Hermit Thrushes here and a good number of both Myrtle (30) and Audubon's (22) Yellow-rumped Warblers.
