Subject: [Tweeters] A window helps out a coopers hawk
Date: Jan 2 20:13:10 2005
From: Rob Sandelin - floriferous at msn.com

Yesterday I was outside when I heard the bonk of a bird hitting a window. I
turned and saw nothing for a moment then saw movement low and fast which
turned into a coopers hawk, which was targeting the feeder. At first I
thought the hawk had hit the window but there was a rustle of wings below
the window, and the hawk turned and landed on whatever bird it was. I was
far enough away so that I could not clearly make out the victim. The hawk
shortly carried away the bird in its talons but it was screened by brush and
trees. Later I found a bunch of feathers which I could not ID. It turns out
my wife was inside and saw the action much better and it was indeed an
evening grosbeak which hit the window.
