Yesterday morning, during the Kent-Auburn cbc, I spotted my first (imm) N. Goshawk. He flew by a couple of times, pursued by crows, then pearched in a deciduous tree enabling about 15 minutes of good (scope) views by our three person team. Ken Brunner, leader for our sector, called it and subsequent review of our guides confirmed our initial impressions. He was located on 216th SE, off of Sweeney in Maple Valley.

Later, I was delighted to see a pair of Townsend Warblers, my second life bird of the day.

Thanks to all who responded to my request for help in finding the Black Scoters. I spent the last day of 2004 at Alki and found them just S. of the Point. An unexpected bonus was the flock of Black Turnstones and Surfbirds (my first) on the rocks W of Salty's.

Owls are next on my wish list.
