Hi Tweets,

While my CBC teammates and I were slogging through the mud at Camp Long and
Schmitz Park in West Seattle on December 26, logging Dark-eyed Juncos and
the other usual suspects, fellow CBC participants in Seattle's Discovery
Park stumbled on a real rarity: four Bohemian Waxwings. This species
occurred sporadically in large numbers west of the Cascades in the first
half of the last century, but has been a rare sighting on this side for many
years.

The Bohemian Waxwings were duly noted and tallied at the end of Seattle's
CBC, but those who saw the birds (including two graduates of former Seattle
Audubon Master Birder classes), didn't post the sighting. I saw an
incomplete report on the waxwings late on the 28th, but it was the 29th
before I found that out exactly where they had been seen and that nobody had
seen them since the 26th.

Anyway, the late and incomplete report on the Bohemian Waxwings in Discovery
Park makes me doubly grateful to the Tweeters who do post their sightings
carefully and help steer all of us toward interesting birds.
