over the past few days, i have to admit to NOT wanting to go out too often,
as the biting wind from the north combines with the already frigid ambient
air to make birding (and photography) just a bit too uncomfortable at
times...

however, i was pleased yesterday afternoon to find a rarity for the park at
just about the time i was thinking of heading home: a white-throated
sparrow feeding with the golden crowns near the entrance to the western
boardwalk... there's a large patch of blackberries at that spot, and our
WTSP fluttered between the grass and the brambles along with the GCSPs...
he didn't seem skittish, perhaps due to the relative calm of the GCSPs to
the normal park traffic...

maryfrances has seen this bird around the park about once a week since
september, but even though i've gone hunting for him, this is my first
encounter...

photos of both the mountain chickadee and the white-throated sparrow are
