....................Nice day Monday---sunny, light east wind and a bit
cool--37 degrees. Drove some....walked some around the perimiter of this
area near Cathlamet, Wash.--west of Longview-Kelso area.
....................Scads of CANADA GEESE., and MALLARDS,
and.........zillions of GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS (they seemed to be
everywhere!!!).
...................Ducks: RINGNECKS;BUFFLEHEADS, COMMON MERGANSERS;
HOODED MERGANSERS; GADWALLS, LESSER SCAUP;GREEN-WINGED TEALS; NO.
SHOVELERS; WIDGEONS;PINTAILS; 1 RED-NECKED GREBE; PIED-BILLED GREBES,
AND DC CORMORANTS (both mature and immature).
...................1 KILLDEER and a number of GREAT BLUE HERONS.
...................Other birds: 1 BELTED KINGFISHER; HOUSE FINCH; WINTER
WRENS; 1 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET; YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER; FOX
SPARROW;and..........1 hammering....hammering...hammering PILEATED
WOODPECKER (a wonderful close-up view of him at work!!!).. And the 1st
year RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD.
....................Hawks: RED-TAILED AND NO. HARRIER HAWKS.
...................And then the more mundane.....CROWS; ROBINS,
STARLINGS, RING-BILLED GULLS, etc.....etc.....etc. What amazed me was
the total lack of Coots----not a Coot anywhere!!! But then there were
the Whitetailed Deer, one was sporting a pretty good set of antlers.

...................And kudos to all the birds present I didn't see.
