the best looks were available through scopes, as the tufted duck (while i
was there) never came closer than about 75 metres or so... however, i have
one shot for ID sake posted on the parkgallery website, under Photo of the
Week, along with the mountain chickadee and the white-throated sparrow...
all in all, it's been a fascinating week...

I went over to Phantom Lake (thanks for the great directions!) at
lunch with Fred Parent and we got great looks at the TUFTED DUCK. He
had noticeably whiter sides than the Ring-Necked Ducks that were with
him and the long tuft was apparent. Caren Park was there along with
two other birders so hopefully we will get some pictures of this guy.
As we were leaving we saw a Coopers Hawk swoop across the road to get
a quick bite. Great outing and well worth taking a long lunch.
