Subject: [Tweeters] Questionable development on near North Head

I just finished a conversation with Tracy Fleming regarding
a questionable development going in just north of North Head
Lighthouse. I do not have all specifics but a developer named
Matt Doney is representing land owners to build large $400,000+
right on the dune front. This will include wetland fills in
fairly good shorebird habitat.

There are all sorts of reasons why this might be considered
a bad idea. It is in a sunami zone. It's in the viewshed for
Lewis and Clark tourists. They'll be filling wetlands and salmon
streams, impacting shorebird stopover habitat. There just
isn't much uneffected wetland left on the pennisula.

Letters to the Pacific County Dept Community Development are
being solicited from folks who think this might be a bad idea
or impact ecotourism in the area.

If this is an issue you have an opinion on, write:

Letters should be there by Jan 12, 2005
There will also be a public meeting, but I didn't get the specific
details on that.
