Bob Woodley had a terrific bird day in his Richland yard on December
16. Among American Goldfinches were 3 PINE SISKINS and a COMMON
REDPOLL. Later that day he saw a BOHEMIAN WAXWING with Cedar Waxwings.

Mike and Mary Lilga were treated to a WESTERN SCREECH-OWL duet on December
17. The birds were located at Saint and Hudson Streets in Richland.

Bob Woodley noted a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW south of Newcomer Street in
Leslie Groves Park in Richland on December 31.

The TriCities Christmas Bird Count tallied 104 species on January 1. Snow
and rain made the day challenging and many birds were seen in only one of
the three cities. Highlights included a PEREGRINE FALCON, 2 GLAUCOUS
GULLS, a BARN SWALLOW, several RED CROSSBILLS and a possible
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER. Despite searching on January 2, the warbler was
not relocated.

On January 2, Bill and Nancy LaFramboise found a BROWN CREEPER in Groves
Park and on January 4 there were 2 BROWN CREEPERS in Columbia Park in
Kennewick in trees near the river between the roundabouts.

Also on January 4, Shirley Sonnichsen spotted a COMMON LOON off Columbia
Park in Kennewick.

Though not seen in the bad weather of the Christmas Bird Count Week, as of
January 6, the MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE remains near Snyder and Camas in Richland
and the WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH remains near Harris and Newcomer in Richland.

If you'd like to see warblers in winter, please attend the February
Feathered Fun event sponsored by LCBAS on February 5. Join us on the
regularly scheduled Bateman Island Walk at 8 am. Then at 1 pm come see
Watching Warblers at the Battelle Auditorium. For a $5 donation you will
see all of the eastern warblers filmed by award winning photographers Judy
Fieth and Michael Male. Following the show, enjoy some goodies and visit
with birders from our area. Watching Warbler DVD's will be available for
purchase for $39.95. Proceeds from the sales will support the making of
Watching Western Warblers. For more information call Charlotte at 547-9087
or Murrel at 588-4025.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number, date,
and sightings after the tone. Thank you.
