Subject: [Tweeters] UW (Redhead Central) Birding

Hi Tweeters,

The male Redhead count at Sakuma Viewpoint Park was up
to 5 drakes and 2 hens earlier this week! The ducks
were scattered today. I suspect this was from eagle
activity, saw a freshly dead, plucked and partially
eaten Glaucous-winged Gull on the "beach" at the park
this morning. I scanned for the predator but did not
see it. There has been a huge duck/coot flock across
Portage Bay this week that probably drew in an eagle.

I missed the Red-breasted Merganser posted by Rebecca
this week. Ring-necked Ducks have arrived. Last year
they weren't around for very long, couple of weeks or
so.

The best bird thing of the week for me was observing
one of the 18,000+ Seattle American Crows Gene Hunn
reported. It's mouth was cram packed full of
something, I thought some of it was wood chips until I
got closer and could see the crow was trying
desperately to get as many Cheerio's as it could into
it's overly stuffed mouth and crop. Amazing and funny
too!
