Hi,

My wife and I are going to be in Portland, OR for the US National Ice Skating
Championships next week, my wife's second passion. We will be arriving in
Portland, Monday around noon. We are planning to jump into a rental car and
head for Olympia after checking into our Portland motel.

My first question, as a person who lives in world of sun and liquid sunshine,
what are the road conditions between Portland & Olympia using I-5. Are
chains required when there is snow on the road or can a 4x4 usually make it with
whatever tires come on rental cars in your area?

Does anyone know of a nice motel that is close to the area of the Redwing,
since we will need one Monday night?

I have all of the sighting reports on this bird since the beginning of the
year. Is there any special information that we should have to improve our
chances during our short window of opportunity on Tuesday, especially if there are
not many other birders around? Such as were should we start looking? What is
the best, earliest time? Is the bird being seen in the afternoon, just in
case we can make it before sundown on Monday?

ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

BIG THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!

Great birding and find that next lifer,

John (One of Birders2)
John + Irma = 2, we are birders, too.
