For many years we have been feeding cracked corn to wild ducks that fly
in every morning to the pond outside our kitchen window. Right now, we
have dozens of Mallards, six pairs of Wood Ducks, and one male Mandarin
attending the chow line.
Yesterday, Bill observed one of the Mallard drakes wearing two leg
bands, specifically:
Right Leg: color silver, #667, with word "Call----".
Left Leg: color green, #377, with word "Reward".
Perhaps we have merely missed noticing the bands before, but now that
we have spotted this banded Mallard drake, we are wondering what these
bands signify, and would appreciate hearing from anyone who can enlighten
us or steer us to where we may find information on these bands.
A call to the Bird Banding Laboratory (800-327-Band) gave us no help
(8-digit bands only), indicating it was not their bands.
