January 1, 9:50, AM. This is Michael Flemming, 206-297-3234. I did some
birding yesterday in Everett around the Everett Sewage Ponds and had a SWAMP
SPARROW on the Smith Island there. It was on the trail on the East side of the
island about 300 yards north of where you would cross over the bridge to go
onto Spencer Island. That's it. Good luck and good birding.
January 2, 8:38, PM. This is Rachel Lawson, BirdBox System Administrator,
with an update on the REDWING in Olympia. The bird was seen yesterday and again
this morning, January 2nd. That's it. Good birding.
January 4, 3:15, PM. This is Hugh Jennings at 425-746-6351 and this morning
at Phantom Lake, which is in the Lake Hills greenbelt in Bellevue, I saw a
TUFTED DUCK. In this bright sunshine very good looks at it with my binoculars.
I went back about an hour later with a spotting scope and a camera to try and
get some pictures, but the bird was gone. The closest body of water would be
Lake Sammamish and it may have gone there, so keep an eye out on Lake
Sammamish for a TUFTED DUCK. Thank you.
January 4, 4:12, PM. This is Rachel Lawson, BirdBox System Administrator
with another update on the REDWING in Olympia. The bird was seen yesterday,
January 3rd, and again today, January 4th, although it was only seen briefly at
about 8:30 and then again briefly at noon. I don't know about this afternoon.
And its most reliable location seem to now (tape problem).
January 5, 2:47, PM. Hello, this is January 6th, Wednesday. This is Kevin
Aanerud reporting a LEAST FLYCATCHER today, that was seen today at 11:00 this
morning at Kent, near the ponds. It was right on the edge, on the East edge of
the pond adjacent to 64th Street. It flew across 64th Street into the green
belt under the power lines. It worked its way eastward along that open area,
basically working the North side which is where it got the sunny exposure. I
lost it there eventually and spent much time looking for it but it may show
up down in that area, general direction. My phone number is 523-6195.
January 5, 7:10, PM. Hi, this is Tom Aversa reporting for January 5th trip
up north. Saw a RUSTY BLACKBIRD in Conway, just south of feed mill there.
There is some waste grain along the railroad tracks. At least one RUSTY
BLACKBIRD. I saw a bird three times. I didn't get a look at it one of the times it
flushed, but it was different looking. Anyway, one RUSTY BLACKBIRD. Also in that
location, a nice HARLAN'S intergrade, hunting, an adult bird. A SWAMP
SPARROW at the game range, the Skagit Game Range, near the second bench on the dike
trail closest to the slough. And the adult GYRFALCON was up at the West 90
today also. Thanks.
January 6, 8:11, AM. Good morning. This is Brian Bell calling, 425-485-8058.
I am out at Phantom Lake this morning and the TUFTED DUCK is out here. When
you walk out to the platform and walk on the path straight onto the platform
it was absolutely dead straight ahead of us under decent light this morning
at 7:30 or so. For those of you coming out, good viewing.
January 6, 10:00 PM. This is Rachel Lawson, BirdBox System Administrator.
The REDWING in Olympia continued to be seen. It was seen yesterday and again
today and its current center activity seems to be around 4th and Decatur.
That's it. Good birding.
January 7, 5:07, PM. This is Rachel Lawson at 206-282-5593, with updates on
two birds of interest. The REDWING is still present in Olympia and was seen
this morning. I don't know about this afternoon. And, the TUFTED DUCK at
Phantom Lake in Bellevue was also present today. That bird can be seen from
various access points around the shore of the lake. That's it. Good birding.
January 8, 2:25, PM. This is Kristin Stewart, reporting from Olympia. It is
Saturday, January 8th and the REDWING was seen this morning between Cushing
and Thomas Streets in deciduous trees behind the beauty shop. Thank you.
