Hello Tweets and other birders,

Today my mother and I checked a few locations between the Redwing location at Olympia to the Nisqually NWR. We spent a few hours checking for the Redwing at several locations, but were unable to locate the bird on two separate occasions. Overall there were far less Am.Robins noted today than in previous days,as the Redwing could be in another area,as we expect searching for this bird will continue. We located and observed a single female Common Redpoll at 11am in the alleyway north of 4th Ave. between Decatur and Thomas Streets, which allowed several photographs as it foraged on the ground,as well as at the edge of a rain puddle. The bird offered fairly close approach,as it kept to itself on the ground,as well as in several other area in several backyards. The bird would occasionally group up with a small flock of Pine Siskins and we presume this could be the same individual than noted in past days from nearby locations. It was an exciting bird to see, despite not seeing the Redwing today! We have placed 5 additional photographs of the Common Redpoll taken today at Olympia onto our website, which can be accessed from the following link: http://www.pbase.com/godwit/current/

We also checked the Nisqually NWR after 12:30pm,as conditions became quite cold and windy with a generous walk made along the entire boardwalk to the Twin Barns and along the Nisqually River and along the McAllister Creek trail. A list of highlights at this location consisted of the following species:

3 Greater White-fronted Geese
3 male Eurasian Wigeons
11 Ring-necked Ducks
1 Common Goldeneye
8 Bald Eagles
12+ Northern Harriers
1 adult Cooper's Hawk
6 Red-tailed Hawks(including 1 adult dark-morph bird)
1 male Am.Kestrel
1 adult Peregrine Falcon
1 Wilson's Snipe
1 Great Horned Owl
2 Hairy Woodpeckers
1 Red-breasted Sapsucker
1 immature Northern Shrike
1 Lincoln's Sparrow
2 Purple Finches

Good Redwing searching,

Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
