Dr. Rene Ha at the University of Washington has been doing some research into the mitochondrial DNA of crows. She'll be discussing the results so far at the Vashon Audubon meeting at 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 13. I quote from her abstract, though they are still gathering more data: "The results suggest that there may be more differences between the Northwestern Crow and American Crows than there are between the American and Fish Crow."

If you would like to take the ferry over for the talk, it will be at the Land Trust Building. From the Vashon dock head south on the highway (just follow all of the cars off the dock) and head into "town." At the four way stop, turn right onto Bank Road. The Land Trust building is in the second block next to the fire station on the right hand side.
